It also contains potassium, silica, and chlorophyll. That's why it's included in almost every spring cleanse.

Folk medicine, tradition, research

What nettle represents in every spring cleanse, what is contained in its leaves, and what research says about it.

View the portrait in the Botanical Archive →

Here's how to use it

As a tea: two teaspoons to 250 ml of hot water, steep for 10 minutes, two to three cups a day, with plenty of water. In the kitchen, use like spinach, crumbled into soups, smoothies, and bread dough.

Good to know

If you have heart or kidney failure with water retention, consult your doctor beforehand; this also applies if you are taking diuretics.

Wear gloves when harvesting if you have a known allergy to stinging nettles or very sensitive skin.

As always, remember: a spice or herb is part of good food, not a medicine or medical advice.
