The ritual

Pure brewer's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) as a supplementary feed for dogs, in flakes or tablets.

At a glance

  • What it is: Inactive yeast from beer production, dried, alcohol-free
  • Includes: B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, biotin, folic acid), protein, zinc, selenium, chromium
  • For: Dogs of all breeds and ages, especially those with dull coats and during shedding season
  • Tradition: A classic in the food bowl for generations.
Why your body is aware of this issue: Your dog's coat reflects their overall health: a lack of B vitamins and biotin leads to dullness and flaky skin. Brewer's yeast provides these essential nutrients in a natural form, and most dogs love its savory flavor.

Good to know

  • If you have a yeast allergy or food allergy, first test with a small amount.
  • Dogs with kidney problems or a tendency towards gout: consult your veterinarian beforehand, brewer's yeast is high in purines.
  • Brewer's yeast is not a tick repellent, even though this is often claimed. Protection must be achieved through other means.

As always, supplementary feed is not a substitute for a balanced diet or veterinary care. Consult your veterinarian beforehand if your pet is ill, pregnant, or on long-term medication.
